GE Oven Error Code F3-E3

F3-E3 on a GE oven means the microwave temperature sensor has been detected as shorted. The control board monitors the resistance of this thermistor sensor, which should read approximately 280 kilohms at room temperature and around 1 kilohm at 392 degrees Fahrenheit. When the resistance falls outside the valid range due to a short, the board displays this fault code. The sensor itself, its wiring, or a failed control board relay can all be responsible.

It is not recommended to continue using the oven while this fault is active. A shorted temperature sensor means the control system cannot accurately monitor heat levels in the microwave section, which could lead to uncontrolled heating or other malfunctions. Power down the appliance and diagnose the issue before resuming use.

If the microwave temperature sensor is the cause, sensor replacement parts typically run in the range of $20 to $60 depending on the model. If the control board has a welded relay and requires replacement, board costs can range from $100 to $300 or more for parts alone. Adding professional labor will increase the total cost of either repair.

A knowledgeable DIYer can diagnose this fault by disconnecting power and using a multimeter to measure the sensor resistance at the connector. If the reading is out of range, replacing the sensor is a straightforward repair. However, if the sensor measures correctly and the fault points to a welded relay on the control board, replacing the board is more involved and some homeowners prefer to have a technician handle it.

Disconnecting power briefly may temporarily clear the display, but the F3-E3 code will return if the underlying fault is still present. The sensor short or the failed relay must be physically corrected before the error will stay cleared. A reset alone is not a fix for this fault.
