It is not recommended to continue using the oven while F8-E1 is active. The error indicates a failure in the door locking safety system, and operating the oven at high temperatures without a confirmed locked door position creates a burn and fire risk. Disconnect power and complete the diagnosis before resuming use.

Repair costs depend on which component has failed. Latch motors and switches are generally moderately priced parts, and total repair costs including labor typically range from around $100 to $300 or more depending on your area and the specific parts needed. If wiring connections are simply loose or corroded, the repair may be much less expensive.

Some steps are DIY-friendly, such as inspecting wiring connections and testing switch continuity with a multimeter. Checking the latch motor resistance at approximately 2450 ohms is a straightforward measurement for anyone comfortable with basic electrical testing. However, replacing the latch motor, latch switch, or door switch may require disassembling the oven door area, which some homeowners prefer to leave to a technician.

Disconnecting power for several minutes may temporarily clear the error code, but if the underlying fault in the latch motor, latch switch, or door switch is not resolved, F8-E1 will return the next time the oven reaches high temperatures or attempts a self-clean cycle. A reset alone is not a fix.
