GE Oven Error Code Humidity Sensor OPEN

This error means the oven's control board has detected a problem with the humidity sensor circuit. The sensor may be failed, disconnected, or shorted. The board monitors specific resistance values through the sensor's three-wire connection at CN8 on the power board, and any reading outside those expected values triggers this code.

A power reset may temporarily clear the display, but the error will return if the underlying sensor fault is still present. The control board will continue to detect the out-of-range resistance on the sensor circuit each time the oven powers up. A reset alone is not a fix for this error.

If the sensor itself needs replacement, parts typically range from $30 to $80 depending on the specific model. If the repair requires a service technician, total costs including labor generally fall in the range of $100 to $250. In some cases the fix is as simple as reseating a loose connector, which costs nothing.

A knowledgeable DIYer can perform initial diagnostics by disconnecting the sensor harness from connector CN8 and testing resistance with a multimeter. The correct readings are 6.5K ohms across Black-Red, and 3.25K ohms each across Red-White and Black-White. If the readings are off, the sensor or wiring will need to be replaced, which requires some comfort working with appliance wiring.
