What F125 means on a GE range
The F125 error code on a GE range indicates that the voltage signal from the Cancel touch key has fallen outside of acceptable operating limits. The control board continuously monitors the analog voltage produced by each membrane touch key on the control panel. When the Cancel key generates a voltage reading that is either too high or too low compared to the expected reference range, the board interprets this as a fault and triggers the F125 code. This is a key-specific fault, meaning the board has isolated the problem to the Cancel function rather than a general keypad failure.
The most common cause of this fault is a degraded or damaged membrane keypad. Over time, the conductive traces and pressure-sensitive contacts beneath the Cancel key can wear out, become contaminated with grease or moisture, or develop an internal short or open circuit. Any of these conditions can push the voltage signal out of the acceptable window. In some cases, the ribbon cable connector that links the keypad to the control board can develop a loose or corroded connection, which also disrupts the voltage level the board reads.
A faulty electronic control board can also produce this code, though this is less common. If the board's internal reference voltage circuit or the analog input channel assigned to the Cancel key has failed, the board may misread a properly functioning key. Diagnosis should focus first on the keypad and its ribbon cable connection before considering a control board replacement.

Common causes of F125
- 01
Worn or failed membrane keypad
Part replacementThe Cancel key's conductive contact layer degrades with use, producing a voltage signal outside the acceptable range. Inspect the keypad surface for bubbling, cracking, or unresponsive areas around the Cancel button.
- 02
Moisture or grease contamination under the keypad
Part replacementSpills or steam can seep beneath the membrane keypad and alter the electrical resistance at the Cancel key contact, skewing the voltage reading. Look for discoloration or residue visible at the edges of the keypad panel.
- 03
Loose or corroded ribbon cable connection
Wiring / connectionThe flat ribbon cable connecting the keypad to the control board can work loose or oxidize at the connector, causing intermittent or out-of-range voltage signals. Reseating or inspecting the connector for corrosion is an important early diagnostic step.
- 04
Damaged ribbon cable
Part replacementA pinched, torn, or kinked section of the ribbon cable can create an open or short circuit in the Cancel key signal path. Carefully trace the full length of the cable for any visible physical damage.
- 05
Faulty electronic control board
Part replacementIf the control board's analog input circuit for the Cancel key has failed, it may report an out-of-limits voltage even when the keypad itself is functional. This is typically diagnosed after confirming the keypad and cable are in good condition.
