What F15 means on a GE range
The F15 error code on a GE range indicates that the Electronic Oven Control (EOC) board has detected a failure during its internal self-diagnostic routine. This self-check process runs automatically when the control is powered and monitors the integrity of the controller's internal circuitry, memory, and processing functions. When the controller detects that one or more of these internal checks cannot be completed successfully, it generates the F15 fault and halts normal operation to prevent unsafe or unpredictable behavior.
The EOC-Display Board is a combined unit on many GE ranges that handles both the user interface and the core control logic for oven and burner functions. A self-check failure at this level typically means the controller's firmware, internal memory, or logic circuitry has become corrupted or has degraded to a point where it can no longer verify its own operational integrity. External factors such as power surges, voltage spikes, or sustained electrical noise on the supply line can corrupt the controller's internal state or physically damage components on the board.
Because the fault originates from within the controller itself rather than from a peripheral sensor or external wiring, the diagnostic path leads directly to board replacement. Unlike sensor-based faults where you can test resistance values or inspect wiring harnesses, an internal self-check failure on the EOC cannot be repaired at the component level in the field. The entire EOC-Display Board must be replaced to restore normal control operation.

Common causes of F15
- 01
Failed EOC-Display Board
Part replacementThe controller's internal self-check has detected a failure in its own circuitry, memory, or logic. This is the primary cause of F15 and requires replacing the EOC-Display Board.
- 02
Power Surge or Voltage Spike
Part replacementA sudden surge in line voltage can corrupt the controller's internal memory or damage onboard components, triggering a self-check failure. Check whether the fault appeared after a power outage or storm event.
- 03
Corrupted Controller Firmware or Memory
Part replacementThe controller's internal firmware or non-volatile memory can degrade over time or become corrupted, causing the self-diagnostic routine to fail on startup. A hard reset may temporarily clear the fault, but the board typically requires replacement.
- 04
Loose or Intermittent Power Supply Connection
Wiring / connectionAn unstable power supply to the control board due to a loose wiring harness connection can cause the self-check to fail. Inspect all connector plugs at the board for secure seating before condemning the board itself.
- 05
Sustained Electrical Noise on Supply Line
Wiring / connectionPersistent electrical interference or noise from other appliances on the same circuit can interfere with the controller's internal diagnostics. Verify the range is on a properly grounded, dedicated circuit.
