What FA30 means on a GE range
The FA30 error code on a GE induction range indicates a fan fault within the induction cooktop system. Induction cooktops generate significant heat at the power electronics level, and a dedicated cooling fan is required to keep the inverter boards and bridge board within safe operating temperatures. When the control system detects that the fan is not operating correctly, whether due to a failed motor, a blocked fan assembly, or a loss of communication or feedback signal from the fan circuit, it triggers the FA30 code and typically shuts down cooktop operation to prevent thermal damage.
The two primary components implicated in this fault are the cooktop fan itself and the cooktop bridge board. The bridge board is the power control board specific to the induction cooktop section, and it both drives the fan and monitors its operation. If the board cannot confirm proper fan speed or function, it registers the error. A failed fan motor, a fan that has seized or become obstructed, or a wiring fault between the fan and the bridge board can all produce this code. In some cases the fan motor is intact but the bridge board has lost the ability to properly drive or read the fan signal, making the board itself the root cause.
Diagnosis should begin with a physical inspection of the cooktop fan for obstructions, debris, or mechanical seizure. Spin the fan blade manually to check for resistance. If the fan moves freely and shows no obvious damage, attention shifts to the bridge board, which may have a failed driver circuit or control component responsible for fan operation.

Common causes of FA30
- 01
Failed cooktop fan motor
Part replacementThe fan motor may have burned out or seized, preventing it from spinning at all. Manually turning the fan blade will reveal a seized motor, and a failed motor will not respond when power is applied.
- 02
Obstructed or blocked fan assembly
Wiring / connectionDebris, grease buildup, or a foreign object lodged in the fan housing can stall the blade and trigger the fault. Inspect the fan assembly visually and clear any obstructions before replacing parts.
- 03
Faulty cooktop bridge board
Part replacementThe bridge board drives the fan and monitors its feedback signal. If the board's fan driver circuit has failed, the fan will not receive proper power even if the motor itself is functional.
- 04
Wiring or connector fault between fan and bridge board
Wiring / connectionA loose connector, broken wire, or corroded terminal in the harness between the fan and the bridge board can interrupt the fan drive or feedback signal. Inspect all connectors at both the fan and board for damage or corrosion.
