The FB error code on a GE range indicates an internal touch key chip memory error within the Main Logic Board. The touch key chip is a dedicated integrated circuit embedded on the logic board responsible for managing and interpreting capacitive or membrane touch input from the control panel. When this chip experiences a memory fault, it loses the ability to correctly read, store, or process the touch key states, causing the control system to flag the FB code and typically rendering the control panel unresponsive or erratic.

This type of fault is internal to the logic board itself, meaning the failure originates within the chip's onboard memory registers rather than in external wiring or connected components. Causes can include firmware corruption within the chip, physical degradation of the memory cells due to heat cycling over time, or component failure resulting from voltage irregularities supplied to the board. Because the touch key chip is soldered directly onto the main logic board and is not a separately serviceable component, the entire board must be replaced when this error is present.

Diagnosing FB is straightforward in the sense that the fault is localized to one assembly. There are no external sensors, thermistors, or harness connections to test. The first and definitive corrective action is replacement of the Main Logic Board. Attempting to clear the code through a power reset may temporarily suppress the error, but the underlying memory fault will cause it to return as long as the original board remains installed.
