What FE means on a GE range
The FE error code on a GE range indicates an internal touch key chip signal error originating within the Main Logic Board. The touch key chip is an integrated component embedded directly on the logic board that processes capacitive or resistive input signals from the control panel's touch-sensitive keys. When the chip detects an abnormal or out-of-range signal, it flags a fault and displays the FE code. This is not a wiring issue between the control panel and the board, but rather a failure internal to the board's own signal processing circuitry.
Because the touch key chip is soldered directly onto the Main Logic Board and is not a separately serviceable component, the fault cannot be resolved by cleaning contacts, swapping ribbon cables, or adjusting external wiring. The fault originates within the chip itself, which may have developed a short circuit, experienced component degradation, or suffered a failure in its signal generation or interpretation circuitry. Environmental factors such as heat exposure, moisture intrusion, or power surge events can accelerate failure of these integrated chips.
The standard diagnostic and repair path for an FE code is direct replacement of the Main Logic Board. There is no field-level repair for the chip itself. Before replacing the board, it is worth performing a hard reset by disconnecting power for several minutes to rule out a transient signal anomaly. If the code returns after restoring power, board replacement is the confirmed next step.

Common causes of FE
- 01
Main Logic Board touch key chip failure
Part replacementThe touch key chip embedded on the Main Logic Board has failed internally, producing an out-of-range or erratic signal. This is the primary cause of the FE code and requires full board replacement.
- 02
Power surge or voltage spike damage
Part replacementA sudden surge in supply voltage can damage sensitive integrated chips on the logic board. If the FE code appeared after a power outage or storm event, surge-related board damage is likely.
- 03
Heat-related board component degradation
Part replacementProlonged exposure to high temperatures within the range cavity can degrade solder joints and chip integrity on the logic board over time. Inspect the board for discoloration or visible heat damage if accessible.
- 04
Moisture or grease contamination on the board
Part replacementMoisture or grease that has migrated into the control area can cause signal errors on the logic board's touch key chip circuitry. Look for residue or corrosion on the board surface during inspection.
- 05
Transient signal fault or software glitch
Wiring / connectionIn rare cases, a temporary signal anomaly can trigger the FE code without permanent hardware failure. Disconnecting power for several minutes to perform a hard reset may clear the code if no physical damage is present.
