What LOC On means on a GE range
The LOC On indicator on a GE range signals that the Control Lockout feature has been intentionally activated. When this mode is engaged, all touch pads on the control panel and all cooktop surface controls are completely disabled. No inputs will be recognized by the appliance until the lockout is deactivated. This is a software-level lock implemented in the control board firmware, not a fault or failure condition.
The Control Lockout function exists to prevent unintended operation of the range, particularly useful in households with small children or when the cooktop surface needs to be cleaned without accidentally activating burners or oven functions. Because every control input is suppressed while LOC On is active, the display will show this indicator rather than responding to touch commands.
To clear the LOC On condition, locate the CONTROL LOCKOUT pad on the range's touch panel and press and hold it for approximately 3 seconds. The control should acknowledge the input with a beep or indicator change, and normal operation will resume immediately. If the pad does not respond after several attempts, the control panel itself may warrant further inspection.

Common causes of LOC On
- 01
User accidentally activated Control Lockout
Wiring / connectionThe most frequent cause is an unintentional press-and-hold of the CONTROL LOCKOUT pad, which can happen during cleaning or when items are placed on the control panel. No parts are needed; simply hold the CONTROL LOCKOUT pad for 3 seconds to restore function.
- 02
Child activated the lockout feature
Wiring / connectionChildren pressing control panel buttons can trigger a sustained hold on the lockout pad long enough to engage the feature. The resolution is the same: press and hold the CONTROL LOCKOUT pad for 3 seconds.
- 03
Cleaning contact engaged the lockout
Wiring / connectionWiping the control panel with a cloth can apply sustained pressure to the CONTROL LOCKOUT pad and enable the feature without the user realizing it. This is entirely normal behavior and does not indicate a fault.
- 04
Unresponsive or stuck touch pad
Wiring / connectionIf the CONTROL LOCKOUT pad is physically stuck or has debris beneath it causing a continuous signal, the lockout may re-engage shortly after being cleared. Inspect the pad surface for residue or damage, and clean thoroughly before testing again.
- 05
Control board retaining lockout state after power interruption
Part replacementIn some cases, the control board may retain the lockout state in memory through a power cycle. If clearing the lockout via the pad and then cutting power briefly does not resolve persistent re-engagement, the control board may require service or replacement.
