What PrF means on a GE range
The PrF display on a GE range is not an error code in the traditional sense. It is a status indicator that appears when the oven has been placed into Proof mode, a specialized low-temperature function designed to maintain the warm, humid conditions ideal for yeast-based dough to rise. The oven holds a consistent, low temperature during this mode, typically well below standard baking temperatures, to encourage yeast activity without killing it. The display will remain active and show PrF for the entire duration that Proof mode is running.
This mode is entirely user-initiated and controlled. It is activated through the oven's control panel, not triggered by a fault or component failure. The control board monitors and regulates the oven cavity temperature through the bake element and the oven temperature sensor, cycling heat on and off to maintain the target proofing temperature. Because the setpoint is so low compared to normal baking, the oven cycles at a very gentle level, and the temperature sensor must be functioning correctly for the mode to hold accurately.
When proofing is complete, the user must manually cancel the mode by pressing the OFF pad on the control panel. The PrF indicator will clear immediately upon doing so. If the display persists after pressing OFF, or if the oven fails to exit the mode, the issue may lie with the control panel's touch response or the main control board itself rather than a mechanical component.

Common causes of PrF
- 01
Proof mode intentionally activated
Wiring / connectionThe most common reason PrF appears is that the user selected Proof mode from the oven control panel. This is normal operation and requires no repair. Simply press OFF when proofing is complete.
- 02
Accidental mode selection
Wiring / connectionThe Proof mode may have been selected unintentionally by accidentally pressing the corresponding pad on the control panel. Pressing the OFF pad will cancel the mode immediately.
- 03
Unresponsive control panel touch pad
Part replacementIf PrF remains on the display after pressing the OFF pad, the touch pad may not be registering the input correctly. Inspect the pad for moisture, debris, or physical damage that could interfere with contact.
- 04
Control board not responding to cancel command
Part replacementIn rare cases, the main control board may fail to process the cancel input and continue running Proof mode. If pressing OFF has no effect and a power cycle does not resolve the issue, the control board may need inspection or replacement.
