Haier Washer Error Code CL

CL stands for Child Lock on a Haier washer. It means the control panel has been locked and no buttons will respond to input. This is an intentional feature to prevent accidental cycle changes or tampering. It is not an error or mechanical fault.

Unplugging the washer may or may not clear the CL code depending on whether the control board retains its memory state through a power cycle. The reliable method to clear it is the correct button sequence: holding the water level and delay buttons together for more than 3 seconds. Use the power cycle as a secondary troubleshooting step only if the button sequence fails.

In nearly all cases, clearing the CL code costs nothing because it only requires pressing the correct button combination to deactivate Child Lock. If the control panel membrane or control board has failed and is not registering the deactivation input, part replacement costs can range from around $50 to $200 or more depending on the specific component and labor involved.

Press and hold the water level button and the delay button at the same time for more than 3 seconds. The CL indicator should disappear and normal button operation will resume. Make sure to hold both buttons simultaneously for the full duration, as releasing them too early will not disengage the lock.

The CL code does not indicate any safety hazard or mechanical problem with the washer. The machine is simply in a locked control state. However, you will not be able to start, stop, or modify any cycle until Child Lock is deactivated using the correct button combination.
