OE on a Kenmore washer means the machine was unable to drain all of the water within 12 minutes, triggering a drainage error. The control board monitors the drain cycle and stops the machine when that time limit is exceeded. The fault can stem from a blocked or improperly positioned drain hose, a clogged pump, a wiring connection problem at the main board, or a failed pump motor.

It is not advisable to continue running the washer while OE is active. The machine has stopped because water was not removed in time, and attempting additional cycles without resolving the drain issue can leave standing water in the drum, potentially leading to mold growth or further strain on the pump motor. Resolve the drain fault before resuming normal use.

If the fix involves only repositioning or unclogging the drain hose, the repair costs nothing beyond your time. Reseating a loose wiring connector is also a no-cost repair. If the drain pump motor needs to be replaced, parts and labor typically range from around $100 to $250 depending on your location and the specific pump model required. A control board replacement, if needed, will generally cost more.

Start by checking the drain hose: confirm it is not kinked or folded and that it enters the standpipe or sink at a height between 0.9 and 1.2 meters above the floor. If the hose looks fine, unplug the washer and reseat the WHITE 6-pin pump motor connector at the main board. If the error returns after these steps, the drain pump motor should be tested and replaced if it is not functioning.

Unplugging the washer for a few minutes and restarting it may temporarily clear the OE code, but the error will return if the underlying drainage problem is not corrected. A reset does not fix a clogged hose, a bad connector, or a failed pump. Address the root cause first so the code does not reappear on the next drain cycle.
