What F24 means on a KitchenAid range
The F24 error code on a KitchenAid range indicates that the drain button has become electrically disconnected from the steam board. The steam board is a dedicated control board that manages steam-related functions in the range, and the drain button communicates with it through connector JP02. When this connection is interrupted or absent, the steam board cannot detect the state of the drain button, triggering the F24 fault.
The most direct cause of this error is a loose, corroded, or fully disconnected wiring harness at the JP02 connector on the steam board. Connectors can work loose over time due to vibration, thermal cycling, or improper reassembly after a previous repair. In some cases, the wiring harness itself may have damaged conductors or a broken connector tab that prevents secure seating at JP02.
A failed drain button is also a possible cause. If the button's internal contacts have broken or the button assembly has physically failed, it may present as an open circuit to the steam board, which the control interprets as a disconnection. Before replacing any components, the first diagnostic step is to disconnect power to the range and inspect the JP02 connector on the steam board for proper seating, visible damage, and secure contact with the harness terminals.

Common causes of F24
- 01
Loose or disconnected JP02 connector
Wiring / connectionThe wiring harness at connector JP02 on the steam board may have worked loose or pulled free entirely. Inspecting and firmly reseating this connector is the first step after disconnecting power.
- 02
Damaged wiring harness
Part replacementThe wire harness leading from the drain button to the steam board may have broken conductors, pinched wiring, or a cracked connector housing that prevents reliable contact. A visual inspection along the full length of the harness will help identify damage.
- 03
Corroded or dirty connector terminals
Wiring / connectionMoisture or grease exposure in the range can cause oxidation on the JP02 connector terminals, increasing resistance and breaking the electrical signal between the drain button and the steam board.
- 04
Failed drain button
Part replacementThe drain button itself may have failed internally, presenting an open circuit to the steam board. If the connector and harness check out, the button assembly should be tested for continuity and replaced if faulty.
- 05
Faulty steam board
Part replacementIf all wiring and the drain button test correctly, the steam board itself may have a defect at the JP02 connection port or in the circuitry that monitors the drain button input.
