Lennox Furnace Error Code E 207

E 207 means the furnace control board has detected an open circuit in the hot surface ignitor. The ignitor is the component that heats up to ignite the gas burner at the start of each heating cycle. When the board cannot sense a proper electrical circuit through the ignitor, it shuts down and displays this fault code. The furnace will resume normal operation once the fault is corrected.

The furnace will not attempt to run normally while E 207 is active because the ignitor cannot light the burner. There is no immediate danger from the fault code itself, but you will have no heat until the issue is resolved. Do not attempt to bypass the ignitor circuit, as this could create an unlit gas flow hazard.

A power reset will clear the fault code temporarily, and the furnace will attempt to restart. However, if the ignitor is open or out of the 39 to 70 ohm resistance range, the fault will return immediately during the next ignition attempt. The error will only clear permanently once the defective component is repaired or replaced.

A knowledgeable DIYer can test the ignitor using a multimeter set to measure resistance: the correct reading is between 39 and 70 ohms, and an open (OL) reading confirms a failed ignitor. Replacing the ignitor is a straightforward part swap in many cases, but working near gas components and high-voltage furnace circuits carries real risk. If you are not comfortable with electrical testing or gas appliance service, a licensed HVAC technician is the safer choice.

If the hot surface ignitor is the cause, part costs typically range from $20 to $80 depending on the specific ignitor required. Adding professional labor, a repair generally runs between $100 and $300 in total. If the control board or wiring harness is also involved, costs will be higher.
