E213 indicates a failed internal communication between the microcontrollers inside the main control board. This is not an external sensor or wiring fault; the problem originates within the board itself. The furnace cannot operate normally while this fault is active. A power cycle is the first step, and board replacement is required if the fault persists.

A homeowner can safely attempt a power cycle reset as the first diagnostic step. However, if the fault persists, the repair requires replacing the main control board, which involves working inside the furnace cabinet and handling electrical components. This work is best performed by a qualified HVAC technician, especially to ensure the correct replacement board is sourced and installed properly.

If a power cycle resolves the fault, there is no parts cost involved. If the control board requires replacement, parts costs typically range from $150 to $600 or more depending on the specific Lennox model, with additional labor charges if a technician performs the repair.
