Error code 11 on a Lennox heat pump means the compressor temperature sensor wires have shorted together. The control board has detected an abnormally low resistance in the sensor circuit, which indicates the two sensor conductors are making direct electrical contact. This fault is triggered to protect the compressor from operating without valid temperature monitoring.

The code itself is a protective fault intended to prevent compressor damage, so it reduces immediate safety risk to the equipment. However, a shorted wiring condition in the compressor area should not be ignored, as deteriorated wiring can create broader electrical hazards over time. Address the fault promptly rather than repeatedly clearing it without identifying the root cause.

Resetting the unit may temporarily clear the fault code, but if the short circuit condition in the sensor wiring still exists, the code will return once the system attempts to read the sensor again. A reset is not a fix and should only be used after the underlying wiring or sensor issue has been diagnosed and corrected. Repeatedly resetting without repair risks operating the compressor without valid temperature protection.
