LG Air Conditioner Error Code 116

Error code 116 means the control system has detected an open or short circuit condition in the high pressure sensor circuit on the sub1 outdoor unit. This sensor monitors refrigerant pressure on the discharge side of the compressor. The system flags this fault because it cannot safely operate without accurate high-side pressure data. The fault is most commonly caused by a loose connector or damaged lead wire.

Running the system with this error active is not recommended. The high pressure sensor is a safety component that protects the compressor from operating at dangerous refrigerant pressures. Without a functioning sensor, the unit cannot detect a high-pressure event, which could lead to compressor damage or component failure. Resolve the fault before resuming normal operation.

Repair costs vary depending on what component has failed. If only the connector needs cleaning or reseating, the cost may be limited to a service call fee, typically in the range of $75 to $150. Replacing a damaged wire harness or the pressure sensor itself may bring the total to $150 to $400 or more depending on parts and labor rates in your area. Control board replacement, if required, is the most expensive scenario and can range from $300 to $600 or higher.

Start by powering off the unit and inspecting the high pressure sensor connector and lead wire on the outdoor unit. A power reset may temporarily clear the error code, but it will return if the underlying fault in the sensor circuit has not been repaired.
