Error code 217 on an LG air conditioner indicates a liquid pipe temperature sensor fault on HR unit 5. The system has detected either an open circuit or a short circuit in the sensor circuit for that heat recovery unit. This prevents the unit from operating normally until the fault is diagnosed and corrected.

Error code 217 itself is a sensor monitoring fault rather than a direct safety emergency. The system disables the affected unit as a protective measure to avoid operating without accurate temperature data. You should stop using the affected zone and have it inspected promptly, but this code does not indicate an immediate danger such as a refrigerant leak or electrical hazard.

A power reset may temporarily clear the error code and allow the system to restart, but if the underlying fault in the sensor circuit still exists, error 217 will return once the control board performs its self-check.
