LG Air Conditioner Error Code 226

Error code 226 indicates a temperature sensor fault at the sub-cooling inlet pipe of HR unit 7. The control board has detected either an open circuit or a short circuit in the sensor or its wiring. This prevents accurate refrigerant temperature monitoring in that section of the heat recovery system. The unit will limit or stop operation until the fault is resolved.

Continuing to operate the system with error code 226 active is not recommended. The sub-cooling inlet temperature sensor provides data the system needs to regulate refrigerant flow properly, and running without accurate sensor input can lead to improper refrigerant distribution or compressor stress. The system may already be limiting its own operation as a protective measure.

A power reset may temporarily clear the error code from the display, but if the underlying sensor or wiring fault still exists, code 226 will return once the system restarts and re-checks the sensor input. A reset is useful for confirming whether a fault is persistent or intermittent, but it does not repair the root cause and should not be used as a substitute for proper diagnosis.

A knowledgeable DIYer can perform basic checks such as reseating the sensor connector and inspecting the lead cable for visible damage. However, if the thermistor or wiring needs replacement, or if the control board is involved, a qualified HVAC technician familiar with LG VRF and HR systems should handle the repair. Working inside these units involves high-voltage components and refrigerant systems that require proper training and certification.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there may be no parts cost and only a service call fee, typically in the range of $75 to $150.
