E201 is a communication error between the indoor and outdoor units of an LG air conditioning system. It indicates that the outdoor unit cannot properly identify or communicate with one or more indoor units. The cause is typically a duplicate indoor unit address, an incorrect installation number setting, or a fault in the communication wiring.

Pressing the K3 reset key on the outdoor PCB is actually part of the diagnostic process for E201, not just a simple fix. The reset initiates a tracking sequence that shows which indoor units are communicating correctly. If the underlying cause, such as a duplicate address or a wiring fault, is not corrected, the error will return after the reset.

If the issue is only a wiring connection or an address setting, repair costs are primarily the cost of a service call, typically in the range of $75 to $150 or more depending on your area.
