LG Air Conditioner Error Code E263

E263 means the discharge temperature sensor for compressor 2 has come out of its mounting holder on the refrigerant pipe. The control board can no longer read accurate discharge temperatures for that compressor, so it triggers this fault code and restricts operation to protect the system. This is a positional or mechanical issue with the sensor, not necessarily a failed sensor.

A simple power reset will not permanently clear E263 if the sensor is still out of position. The control board will re-detect the abnormal temperature reading and repost the fault. The physical condition causing the code must be corrected first by re-seating and securing the sensor, after which the error should clear on its own or after a restart.

If the sensor simply needs to be re-seated and the holder is intact, the repair may cost little to nothing beyond a service call fee, typically in the range of $75 to $150 depending on your area. If the sensor holder or the sensor itself needs replacement, parts and labor combined could range from $100 to $300 or more depending on the specific unit and local labor rates.

Start by locating the discharge temperature sensor near compressor 2 on the refrigerant line. Re-insert the sensor firmly into its holder so it contacts the pipe surface directly, then secure the mounting clip or bracket. If the holder is cracked or cannot retain the sensor, replace the holder or sensor assembly and then power the unit back on to check whether the code clears.

It is not recommended. When E263 is active, the system cannot monitor the actual discharge temperature of compressor 2, which removes an important protection against overheating. Running the unit in this condition risks undetected overtemperature conditions that could damage the compressor. Address the sensor position issue before resuming normal operation.
