LG Air Conditioner Error Code E441

E441 indicates that cooling operation has been suspended because the outdoor air temperature has dropped below -5°C (23°F). The error is displayed on screen once the temperature falls below the secondary display threshold of -10°C (14°F). This is a protective operational limit built into the unit, not a component failure. Cooling will be unavailable until outdoor temperatures rise back above the minimum allowed range.

E441 is specifically designed to prevent unsafe operation. Running the compressor in cooling mode at outdoor temperatures below -5°C can cause refrigerant pressure problems and compressor damage. The unit is protecting itself by blocking cooling operation. Do not attempt to bypass this limit. Other functions such as heating or fan-only may still be safely available depending on your model.

In most cases E441 requires no repair at all since it is triggered by cold outdoor temperatures rather than a broken part. If the error is caused by a faulty outdoor ambient thermistor, sensor replacement typically costs in the range of $50 to $150 including parts and labor, depending on the model and service rates in your area. If the issue involves control board wiring or the board itself, diagnostic and repair costs can range from $100 to $400 or more.

If outdoor temperatures are genuinely below -5°C, the fix is to wait for warmer conditions or switch the unit to a mode that is permitted at low temperatures, such as heating or fan-only. If E441 is appearing during mild weather, check the outdoor ambient thermistor for an incorrect resistance reading, inspect the sensor wiring for damage or loose connectors, and verify the control board is receiving a proper signal from the sensor.

A reset will not permanently clear E441 if the root cause is still present. If outdoor temperatures remain below the -5°C threshold, the error will return as soon as the unit attempts to run cooling mode again. A reset may temporarily clear the display, but the control board will re-evaluate the outdoor temperature and re-trigger the alert. The error will clear on its own once conditions return to within the acceptable operating range.
