What PF means on a LG range
The PF code on an LG range stands for Power Failure. It is not an error in the traditional sense, but rather an informational indicator that the appliance control board has detected an interruption in its power supply. This occurs any time the range loses and then regains electrical power, including when the unit is first plugged in, when a circuit breaker trips and resets, or when a brief utility outage occurs. The control board monitors its own power input continuously, and when voltage drops below the threshold needed to sustain operation, the board logs the event and displays PF upon restoration.
The component involved is the electronic control board and its associated clock or timer circuit. When power is restored, the board initializes and displays PF to alert the user that the previously programmed clock time and any active cooking functions have been lost. A flashing clock display may appear in place of or following the PF message, which simply indicates the clock is waiting to be set.
Clearing the PF code requires no disassembly or parts replacement in almost all cases. Pressing the CLEAR/OFF key will dismiss the message. If the clock display is flashing, the user should press the Clock key and re-enter the current time, or press any key to stop the flashing without setting the time. If PF appears repeatedly without any known power interruption, the issue may involve unstable household voltage, a loose power connection, or a failing control board.

Common causes of PF
- 01
Utility power outage or momentary voltage dip
Wiring / connectionEven a very brief interruption in household power is enough to trigger the PF indicator when power returns. This is the most common cause and requires no repair.
- 02
Tripped or reset circuit breaker
Wiring / connectionIf the breaker serving the range trips and then is reset manually or automatically, the control board will display PF on the next power-up. Check the breaker panel if the cause of the trip is unknown.
- 03
Range was unplugged or first installed
Wiring / connectionPlugging in a range for the first time, or reconnecting it after being moved or serviced, will always produce a PF display since the board has no stored power state.
- 04
Loose or intermittent power connection
Wiring / connectionA loose connection at the wall outlet, terminal block, or power cord can cause repeated PF codes without a clear external power event. Inspect the outlet and cord connections if the code recurs frequently.
- 05
Failing electronic control board
Part replacementIf PF appears repeatedly and no power interruption can be identified, the control board may be losing its internal power regulation. This is uncommon but would require control board replacement to resolve.
