What 22E means on a LG refrigerator
The 22E error code on LG refrigerators indicates a Freezer Fan (FF-Fan) error. This fault is triggered when the main control board detects a problem with the freezer evaporator fan circuit during operation. The error can result from three primary conditions: a contact fault on the feedback signal line, physical separation or breakage of the motor wiring, or an internal motor failure. The freezer fan is responsible for circulating cold air from the evaporator coils throughout the freezer compartment, so when it fails, temperature regulation is directly compromised.
Diagnosis begins at the main PCB connector CN76. Technicians should measure the voltage between pin CN76-4 (Orange wire) and CN76-1 (Gray wire). A healthy circuit will read between 7V and 12V. A reading outside this range points toward a wiring or power delivery problem, while a voltage reading within spec combined with a persistent error code suggests the fan motor itself is faulty or the feedback signal from the motor is not returning to the board correctly.
The feedback signal line is a key part of this circuit. The main PCB monitors the fan motor's tachometer or feedback signal to confirm the motor is spinning at the correct speed. If the wiring harness is damaged, corroded, or has pulled loose from its connector, the board loses that confirmation signal and throws the 22E fault. Ice buildup around the fan assembly is a common contributing factor, as it can jam the motor and cause the feedback signal to drop out even when the wiring and motor are otherwise intact.

Common causes of 22E
- 01
Ice buildup jamming the fan
Wiring / connectionFrost or ice accumulation around the freezer evaporator fan can physically block the fan blades from turning, causing the motor to stall and the feedback signal to drop. Inspect the fan area for visible ice buildup after defrosting the unit.
- 02
Wiring harness disconnection or damage
Wiring / connectionThe motor wire may have separated from its connector at the main PCB or at the fan motor itself. Check the harness running to the freezer fan for pulled connectors, broken wires, or chafing damage.
- 03
Feedback signal line contact fault
Wiring / connectionA corroded or loose contact on the feedback signal line between the fan motor and CN76 on the main PCB will cause the board to lose confirmation that the motor is spinning. Measure voltage between CN76-4 (Orange) and CN76-1 (Gray) to check for the expected 7V to 12V range.
- 04
Failed freezer fan motor
Part replacementThe fan motor itself may have burned out or seized internally. If wiring checks out and voltage at CN76 is within spec but the motor does not spin freely or hums without turning, the motor requires replacement.
- 05
Faulty main PCB
Part replacementIf voltage at CN76-4 to CN76-1 is outside the 7V to 12V range and the wiring harness is intact with no visible damage, the main control board may not be supplying correct power or reading the feedback signal properly and may need to be replaced.
