The defrost system involves several interconnected components: the defrost heater, a thermal fuse (sometimes called a melting fuse), the defrost thermostat, and the wiring connectors that link these parts to the control board. The Er dF code can be triggered by a failed or open defrost heater that is no longer generating heat, a blown thermal fuse that has opened the circuit as a protective measure, a short circuit anywhere in the defrost loop, or a connector that has become unplugged or corroded along the defrost control wiring harness.
