LG Refrigerator Error Code Er SS

The Er SS code on an LG refrigerator indicates a room temperature sensor failure. This sensor monitors the ambient temperature inside or around the refrigerator compartment and feeds that data to the main control board. Unlike many other LG error codes, Er SS is not displayed on the primary failure indicator during normal operation. It only becomes visible when you access the diagnostic check display mode, which means a technician must actively look for it during a service inspection.

To view this code, press and hold the warmer key for the refrigerator temperature and the warmer key for the freezer temperature simultaneously for more than one second to enter the checking display. Once in that mode, diagnostics focus on POINT D voltage. Normal sensor operation produces a voltage reading between 0.5V and 4.5V at that test point. A reading of 0V indicates a short circuit in the sensor circuit, while a reading of 5V points to an open circuit condition, meaning the signal path is broken entirely.

The room temperature sensor itself is a thermistor, a resistive component whose resistance changes predictably with temperature. Failure can result from physical damage to the sensor, degraded wiring or connectors in the circuit, or a fault on the main control board that supplies or reads the sensor signal. Because this code does not appear during normal display operation, it may go unnoticed until a technician runs diagnostics, making periodic checks important for comprehensive refrigerator service.
