Error12 on an LG refrigerator indicates an abnormal condition within the ice maker unit. The refrigerator's control system has detected a fault in one or more components responsible for the ice making cycle, specifically the ice maker motor, the position sensor that tracks the harvest arm or tray rotation, the wiring harness connecting these components, or the motor control circuit on the ice maker assembly board. When any of these components fails to respond correctly or sends an out-of-range signal, the control board flags the abnormality and displays Error12.

The ice maker motor drives the ejection mechanism that rotates the ice tray or pushes cubes into the bin during the harvest cycle. If this motor is defective, it may stall, run intermittently, or draw incorrect current. The position sensor works in conjunction with the motor to confirm that the harvest cycle has completed and the tray has returned to the fill position.
