What OF-OF means on a LG refrigerator
The OF-OF error code on an LG refrigerator indicates that the unit is in Cooling Off mode, also referred to as Demo mode or Display mode. In this state, the compressor is completely disabled and the refrigerator will not cool, though the interior lights and display panel continue to function normally. This mode is designed for showroom or retail environments where the unit needs to be powered on and visually operational without actually running the cooling system. The display blinks OF-OF on the temperature setting panel to alert the user that cooling is inactive.
This condition is not a component failure or system fault. No sensors, compressors, or control boards have malfunctioned. The unit has simply been placed into a programmed operational mode, either intentionally or by an accidental key combination press. Because the compressor is not running, food stored inside will not be kept at safe temperatures, making it important to exit this mode as quickly as possible.
To cancel Cooling Off mode, press and hold the Energy Saver key and the Power Freeze key simultaneously for 3 seconds. The display should return to normal temperature readings and the compressor will resume operation. If the mode reactivates on its own or the key combination does not cancel it, the control panel or main board may warrant further inspection, though this is uncommon.

Common causes of OF-OF
- 01
Accidental activation of Cooling Off mode
Wiring / connectionThe most frequent cause is an unintentional press of the Energy Saver and Power Freeze keys simultaneously for 3 seconds, which toggles the unit into Demo mode. This can happen during cleaning, moving the refrigerator, or pressing buttons on the panel inadvertently.
- 02
Intentional Demo mode activation during setup
Wiring / connectionIf the refrigerator was recently installed or purchased as a floor model, it may have been placed into Cooling Off mode at the retail location and never taken out of it before delivery.
- 03
Child lock or panel interaction
Wiring / connectionIn households where children interact with the control panel, the key combination required to trigger Cooling Off mode may have been pressed without the owner's awareness.
- 04
Control panel button malfunction
Part replacementA stuck or intermittently shorting button on the display panel could theoretically trigger the key combination repeatedly, causing the unit to re-enter Cooling Off mode after being cancelled. Inspect the panel for any keys that feel sticky or unresponsive.
