LG Refrigerator Error Code rF E

The rF E code means the refrigerator compartment fan motor has been detected as locked or not returning a proper operating signal for more than 65 seconds. LG refrigerators use a BLDC fan motor to circulate cold air through the fresh food section, and the control board continuously monitors its feedback signal. When that signal is missing or incorrect for the defined timeout period, the board logs this error code. The refrigerator may stop cooling the fresh food section effectively while this fault is active.

A reset may temporarily clear the rF E code, but if the underlying problem with the fan motor or wiring is not resolved, the error will return once the control board detects the fault condition again after 65 seconds. Resetting the unit and entering Test 1 Mode is a useful diagnostic step to determine whether the fault is persistent or intermittent, but it is not a permanent fix on its own.

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause. If the fix involves simply clearing an ice blockage or repositioning an obstruction, there may be no parts cost at all. Replacing a BLDC refrigerator fan motor typically costs in the range of $50 to $150 for the part, with additional labor costs if a technician is hired. If the main control board is the cause, parts alone can range from $100 to $300 or more, depending on the specific model.

Some causes of the rF E error can be addressed without professional help.
