The 4E code on an LG washer indicates a water supply error. The machine has detected a problem with how water is entering the drum, which can be caused by a clogged inlet valve filter, a failed solenoid coil, a disconnected wiring terminal, incorrectly connected hoses, or water that is too hot for the selected cycle. Diagnosing it starts with checking the valve filter screen for debris and testing the valve solenoid resistance, which should fall between 0.9K ohm and 1.1K ohm.

A reset may temporarily clear the display, but if the underlying problem is not resolved, the 4E code will return as soon as you run another cycle. The error reflects a real condition detected by the control system, such as restricted water flow or a faulty valve, so the hardware issue must be corrected first. After fixing the cause, you can reset the washer by unplugging it for about a minute, then running a short cycle to confirm the error is gone.

The cost depends on what is causing the error. If the fix is as simple as cleaning the inlet valve filter screen, there may be no parts cost at all, just your time. A replacement water supply valve typically runs in the range of 20 to 60 dollars for the part, with additional labor costs if you hire a technician, which could bring the total repair to 100 to 200 dollars or more depending on your area.
