The DRAIN error on an LG washer means the machine started its drain process but the water level did not drop below the reset point within 15 minutes. The washer monitors water level continuously during draining, and when it cannot confirm the tub is empty in time, it stops and displays this code. It points to a problem in the drain system, such as a clog, a hose issue, or a pump problem.

Pressing the POWER key will clear the active error display and reset the control, but it will not fix the underlying cause. If the drain system problem is not resolved, the DRAIN error will return as soon as the washer attempts to drain again. A reset is a useful first step for diagnosis, not a permanent solution.

If the fix is simply cleaning the pump filter or adjusting the drain hose, there is no parts cost and only your time is involved. Replacing a drain pump motor typically costs between $35 and $100 for the part, plus $75 to $150 for professional labor if you do not do the repair yourself. A faulty water level pressure sensor is generally less expensive, with parts ranging from $15 to $50, and repair costs depend on whether you hire a technician.

Start by pressing the POWER key to reset the washer, then locate and clean the drain pump filter at the lower front of the machine, removing any trapped debris. Next, inspect the drain hose for kinks or blockages and confirm it is not inserted too deeply into the standpipe. If the error returns after these steps, the drain pump motor or water level pressure sensor may need to be tested and replaced.

It is not recommended to leave the washer unattended with standing water in the drum for an extended period, as it can lead to mold and mildew growth inside the tub. The machine will not continue the wash cycle in this state, so laundry will remain wet until the issue is resolved.
