E-46 on an LG washer indicates an Easy/PH sensor primary open circuit error. The washer's control board detected that the primary sensor circuit was open, meaning no valid signal was received, for approximately 3 minutes. This causes the machine to stop the cycle until the issue is resolved. The fault points to a problem with the sensor itself, its wiring, or the connectors linking it to the PCB.

It is not recommended to continue running the washer while E-46 is active. The machine has halted operation because a required sensor signal is absent, and running cycles without that input could lead to incorrect cycle behavior or further component stress. Address the underlying cause before resuming use.

A power cycle or reset may temporarily clear the E-46 code, but it will return if the underlying open circuit issue has not been corrected. The washer's control board will detect the absent sensor signal again once the 3-minute threshold is reached during operation. A reset is only useful as a first step to confirm the error; a proper repair of the sensor, connectors, or wiring is required for a lasting fix.
