The E8 code on an LG washer means the machine has detected an Abnormal Water Temperature condition. It triggers during Delicate or Wool cycles when the inlet water temperature is 50°C or higher, or when the temperature sensor circuit produces an abnormal frequency of 24.5 kHz. When the fault occurs, the washer drains the tub and halts the cycle to protect heat-sensitive fabrics and the machine itself.

You should not run additional Delicate or Wool cycles until the cause of the E8 error has been identified and resolved. The washer will drain and stop each time the fault is detected, so the cycles will not complete. Running other cycle types may be possible if the issue is specific to those programs, but it is best to diagnose the root cause before continued use to avoid potential damage to fabrics or the temperature sensing system.

Start by powering the washer off and checking the hot and cold water inlet hoses at the back of the machine to confirm they are connected to the correct ports. Next, run a hot tap nearby to assess whether your water heater is supplying unusually hot water. If the connections and supply temperature are normal, the issue is likely a faulty temperature sensor or a wiring problem in the sensor circuit, which will require further electrical testing.

Turning the power switch off is the first recommended step and can clear a temporary E8 fault caused by a transient spike in water temperature or a brief sensor signal irregularity. If the underlying condition, such as a reversed hose or a failed sensor, has not been corrected, the error will return when you run another Delicate or Wool cycle. A power reset is a diagnostic starting point, not a permanent fix for a hardware problem.

The cost depends on the cause. If the fix is simply correcting a reversed hose connection or adjusting the water heater thermostat, there is no parts cost. Replacing a faulty temperature sensor typically costs between $15 and $60 for the part, plus labor if a technician is hired. A main control board replacement is the most expensive scenario, generally ranging from $150 to $350 or more for parts alone.
