The Ed3 code means the LG washer detected that the fabric softener level in the softener reservoir did not decrease during a wash cycle. This indicates the softener dispensing pump failed to move liquid into the drum. The most frequent cause is softener that has hardened inside the reservoir or pump after being left for a long time. An electrical fault or failed pump motor can also trigger this code.

The washer can still run its wash cycles with the Ed3 code active, but it will not dispense fabric softener correctly until the fault is resolved. There is no immediate safety hazard to the machine or user. However, continuing to run cycles without addressing the issue could allow hardened softener buildup to worsen, potentially causing more extensive blockage over time.

A basic reset, such as unplugging the washer for a few minutes and restarting, will not permanently clear the Ed3 code if the underlying fault still exists. The code will return as soon as the washer runs a cycle and detects that the softener level has not changed. The error will only clear reliably once the actual cause, whether a blockage, a loose connector, or a failed pump, has been corrected.

Start by removing the softener dispenser drawer and cleaning it thoroughly with warm water to dissolve any hardened residue. Next, check that the pump wiring connector is fully plugged in and free of damage. If cleaning and reconnecting the connector do not resolve the issue, use a multimeter to measure pump resistance between pin 1 and pin 3: the reading should fall between 22 and 42 ohms, plus or minus 10 percent. A reading outside that range means the pump motor needs to be replaced.

If the issue is simply hardened softener, the repair costs nothing beyond your time and some warm water for cleaning. A replacement softener pump, if the motor has failed, typically costs in the range of 20 to 60 dollars for the part itself.
