Ed4 on an LG washer indicates an open circuit in the fabric softener pump. The washer detected that the softener level in the reservoir did not decrease as expected during the cycle, pointing to a pump that is not receiving power or has failed internally. The fault can stem from a wiring issue, a bad connector, or a pump with winding resistance outside the acceptable 22 to 42 ohm range.

The Ed4 code means fabric softener will not be dispensed correctly, but the washer will generally still complete the wash cycle. There is no immediate safety hazard from the error itself. However, continuing to use the washer without addressing the fault means your laundry will not receive fabric softener, and leaving a wiring fault unresolved can cause additional electrical wear over time.
