The OE error on an LG washer means the water level sensor detected a frequency above 21.3 kHz, indicating the water level in the drum has exceeded the safe threshold. When this happens, the washer stops the cycle and automatically runs the drain pump to remove excess water. The error points to a problem with the pressure sensing system, the water inlet valve, or the actual water level in the tub.

You should not continue using the washer until the cause of the OE error is identified and resolved. If the water inlet valve is failing and allowing water to enter continuously, running the machine could result in a flood. The washer does activate the drain pump automatically as a protective measure, but addressing the underlying fault before further use is important.

Repair costs vary depending on the cause. If the fix involves simply clearing a clogged air chamber tube, the cost can be minimal since no parts are required. Replacing a water inlet valve typically costs in the range of $50 to $150 for the part, plus labor if a technician is needed. A failed pressure sensor or control board replacement will generally run higher, potentially $100 to $350 or more depending on parts and labor rates in your area.

Start by inspecting the air chamber and the small rubber tube connecting it to the tub for any clogs, kinks, or loose connections, since this is the most common cause. If the tubing is clear, check whether water enters the drum when the washer is off, which would indicate a faulty water inlet valve that needs replacement. Also confirm you are using HE detergent in the correct amount, as excess suds can trigger false overflow readings.

A reset may temporarily clear the error code, but it will return if the underlying problem is not fixed. If a clogged air chamber tube or a faulty inlet valve is responsible, the same conditions will trigger the OE code again on the next cycle. Clearing the code without resolving the root cause does not make the washer safe to operate long term.
