LG Washer Error Code PE1

PE1 on an LG washer indicates a clutch motor hall sensor error. After completing a clutch position detection cycle, the control board receives an invalid or absent signal from the hall sensor. The machine attempts to recover by rocking the drum left and right up to 15 times before locking in the fault code. Normal washing and spinning cannot continue until the issue is diagnosed and repaired.

It is not advisable to continue using the washer while a PE1 error is active. The clutch is responsible for switching the drum between wash and spin functions, and an undetected clutch position can result in improper cycle operation. Running the machine in this state risks mechanical stress on the drum and drive components. Resolve the fault before resuming regular use.

A power reset may temporarily clear the PE1 code, but it will return if the underlying hardware fault is not corrected. The control board triggers PE1 only after 15 consecutive failed attempts to validate the clutch hall signal, so a reset simply restarts that detection process. If the sensor, wiring, or clutch assembly is still faulty, the error will reappear once the machine cycles through position detection again.

Some PE1 causes are DIY-friendly. Start by inspecting the hall sensor wire connector for loose or corroded terminals and reseat it firmly. If the connector is clean and secure, you can check the wiring harness for visible damage. Replacing the clutch hall sensor or the clutch coupling assembly is more involved but is within reach for experienced DIYers who are comfortable disassembling the washer's inner components.

Repair costs depend on the root cause. If only the wire connector needs to be reseated or cleaned, the cost is minimal.
