The tE1 code on an LG washer indicates an error with the washing heater temperature sensor in the tub. This can be caused by a disconnected or improperly connected sensor connector, a failed temperature sensor, or a sensor that is detecting abnormally high temperatures between 100 and 150 degrees Celsius when no water is present. The washer halts the cycle to prevent unsafe operation until the fault is corrected.

A reset may temporarily clear the tE1 code, but if the underlying problem is not fixed, the error will return as soon as the washer attempts a heated cycle. Unplugging the machine for a few minutes can reset the display, but a proper repair of the sensor connection or sensor replacement is required for a lasting fix.

If only the sensor connector needs reseating, there may be no parts cost at all, just the time to inspect and reconnect it. A replacement washing heater temperature sensor typically costs in the range of 20 to 60 dollars for the part, with professional labor adding 80 to 150 dollars or more depending on your location and service provider.
