LG Washer Error Code UB

UB stands for Unbalance on an LG washer. It means the machine detected that the laundry inside the drum is unevenly distributed, causing excessive movement during the spin cycle. The washer stops or slows down to protect its internal components. In most cases, redistributing the load and restarting the cycle clears the error.

A simple power reset, unplugging the machine for about 30 seconds and plugging it back in, may clear the code from the display, but it will not fix the underlying cause. If the load is still unbalanced when the spin cycle resumes, the UB error will return. The load must be repositioned to prevent the code from reappearing.

If the UB error is only caused by load distribution, there is no repair cost involved. If the error occurs frequently with properly sized loads and worn suspension parts like shock absorbers or springs are to blame, replacement parts and labor can range from roughly $75 to $250 depending on the specific components needed and local labor rates.

Press the Pause button and open the door to access the laundry. Manually spread the items evenly around the drum, separating any clumped or tangled pieces. If the drum is very full, remove one or two items to reduce the load. Close the door and press Start to resume the cycle.

The washer displays UB and slows or stops precisely to avoid unsafe operation. Running a heavily unbalanced load over time can stress the drum bearings, motor, and suspension components. Address the load imbalance before continuing to run the machine regularly.
