The C0 error code on a Thermador cooktop indicates a communication failure between the main control board and the Touch Control interface. This communication runs through the LIN bus, a single-wire serial network protocol used to coordinate data between the cooktop's control modules. When the LIN bus signal is interrupted, degraded, or absent, the cooktop cannot relay input commands or status information between the touch panel and the underlying control electronics, triggering the C0 fault.

Three primary hardware failures produce this fault condition. First, physical damage or degradation to the LIN bus wiring, such as a broken wire, loose connector, or a short circuit, can interrupt the communication signal entirely. Second, a defective ADB L (the appliance data bus logic board) can fail to send or receive LIN bus signals correctly, even when wiring appears intact. Third, the Touch Control panel itself may be internally defective, preventing it from establishing valid communication with the control system regardless of wiring condition.

Diagnosing C0 requires a methodical approach. Begin by confirming the external supply voltage falls within the required range of 160 to 280 VAC, as voltage outside this window can cause control faults that mimic hardware failures. After confirming supply voltage, open the hob and inspect all mechanical components and wiring for visible damage, corrosion, or disconnected harness connectors.
