Solid ON on a Trane furnace indicates ERR 18, which is an internal control failure within the Integrated Furnace Control board. The IFC has performed a self-diagnostic check and identified a fault originating inside the board itself, not in any external sensor or wiring. This condition means the IFC can no longer operate reliably and must be replaced.

A furnace displaying ERR 18 has an IFC that has identified an internal failure and cannot guarantee proper sequencing of safety circuits and components. It is not advisable to continue operating the furnace in this condition. The furnace should be serviced and the IFC replaced before returning the unit to regular use.

A power reset may temporarily clear the ERR 18 indicator, but because the fault is internal to the IFC board itself, the error will return once the board resumes operation.
