What F0E1 means on a Whirlpool cooktop
The F0E1 error code on a Whirlpool induction cooktop indicates that the cooking zone has detected cookware placed on the surface, but the cookware does not meet the compatibility requirements for induction cooking or is not positioned correctly over the induction coil beneath the glass. Induction cooktops use an electromagnetic coil to generate a magnetic field that induces heat directly in ferromagnetic cookware. The cooktop's control system continuously monitors whether the detected cookware is producing the expected electromagnetic response, and when that response falls outside acceptable parameters, F0E1 is triggered.
The most common technical cause is cookware with a base that is not sufficiently ferromagnetic. Only pots and pans made from cast iron, carbon steel, or magnetic stainless steel will work correctly. Cookware made from aluminum, copper, ceramic, or non-magnetic stainless steel will fail the compatibility check. Additionally, pans with warped or uneven bases may make inconsistent contact with the cooking zone, causing the induction sensor to register an incomplete or unstable detection signal, which also triggers this code.
Positioning is another key factor. The cookware must be centered over the cooking zone markings on the glass surface. If the pan is shifted too far toward the edge, the induction coil beneath may not couple efficiently with the pan base, resulting in a detection mismatch and the F0E1 fault. The error is not a component failure in most cases, but rather a mismatch between the cookware being used and the requirements of the selected cooking zone.

Common causes of F0E1
- 01
Non-compatible cookware material
Wiring / connectionCookware made from aluminum, copper, glass, ceramic, or non-magnetic stainless steel will not work on an induction cooktop. You can test your cookware by holding a magnet to the base: if it does not stick firmly, the cookware is not induction-compatible.
- 02
Cookware not centered on the cooking zone
Wiring / connectionIf the pot or pan is positioned off-center relative to the cooking zone markings on the glass, the induction coil cannot couple properly with the pan base. Reposition the cookware so it is centered directly over the zone markings.
- 03
Warped or uneven pan base
Wiring / connectionA pan with a warped, bowed, or uneven base makes inconsistent contact with the cooktop surface, causing the sensor to detect an unstable or insufficient electromagnetic response. Inspect the bottom of the pan on a flat surface to check for warping.
- 04
Cookware base diameter too small for the zone
Wiring / connectionEach cooking zone is sized for a specific range of cookware diameters. Using a very small pan on a large cooking zone can result in insufficient induction coupling, triggering the F0E1 code. Try using the cookware on a smaller cooking zone instead.
- 05
Induction coil or control board fault
Part replacementIn rare cases where multiple compatible pans consistently trigger F0E1 on the same cooking zone, the induction coil or the zone's control circuitry may have developed a fault. This would require professional diagnosis and likely a component replacement.
