What F2-E0 means on a Whirlpool cooktop
The F2-E0 error code on a Whirlpool cooktop indicates that the oven control board has lost communication with the keypad assembly. The keypad and the main control board communicate through a ribbon cable or wiring harness connector, and when that connection is interrupted or absent, the control board registers F2-E0. This is a communication fault, not a component failure per se, meaning the underlying issue is frequently a physical connection problem rather than a failed part.
The most common trigger for this code is a loose or partially seated connector between the keypad and the control board. Vibration over time, or simply an incomplete connection from a previous repair, can cause the connector to back out enough to interrupt the signal. In some cases, a damaged ribbon cable with a break or kink in the conductor traces will produce the same fault. The control board itself can also be the source if its connector port is damaged or corroded.
Diagnosis begins by entering Diagnostic Mode using the sequence CANCEL, CANCEL, START to confirm the F2-E0 code is active. After that, the range should be unplugged before any physical inspection. With power removed, the technician should locate the keypad harness connection at the control board, seat it firmly, and verify the connector is free of corrosion or bent pins. If reseating the connection does not resolve the fault after restoring power, further inspection of the ribbon cable or control board connector is warranted.

Common causes of F2-E0
- 01
Loose or unseated keypad connector
Wiring / connectionThe ribbon cable or wiring harness connecting the keypad to the control board has backed out of its socket. Reseating the connector firmly after unplugging the unit is the first corrective step.
- 02
Damaged ribbon cable or wiring harness
Part replacementThe cable linking the keypad to the control board may have a break, kink, or worn section in the conductor traces. Inspect the full length of the cable for visible damage after disconnecting power.
- 03
Failed or faulty keypad assembly
Part replacementThe keypad itself may have an internal failure that prevents it from communicating with the control board. If the connector and cable check out as intact, the keypad assembly is the next component to evaluate.
- 04
Damaged control board connector port
Part replacementCorrosion, bent pins, or physical damage at the control board's connector port can prevent a stable connection even when the harness is properly seated.
