Whirlpool Dryer Error Code F06

The F06 code means the dryer's control board has detected that a temperature sensor (NTC thermistor) is reading a value that is either too high or too low. On condenser dryers, this is the Heater NTC in SET 2. On heat pump dryers, this is the HX NTC associated with the compressor or heat exchanger circuit. The fault indicates the sensor signal is outside the acceptable range for safe operation.

Start by performing a reset and running a test cycle. If the error returns, unplug the dryer and inspect the ACU wiring harness and all connectors for looseness, corrosion, or damage. Then perform Test 4C, which checks the relevant thermistor: the Outlet Thermistor test for condenser models or the Compressor Thermistor test for heat pump models. Based on those results, you will either replace the thermistor, repair the wiring, or address the ACU.

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause. If only a thermistor replacement is needed, parts typically range from around $15 to $50, with professional labor adding $75 to $150 or more depending on your area. If the ACU is found to be faulty, the part alone can range from $100 to $300 or higher. Getting a diagnostic assessment from a technician before committing to repairs is a good idea.

A reset can clear the F06 code temporarily, and Whirlpool recommends performing a reset as the first diagnostic step. However, if the underlying cause is a failed thermistor, damaged wiring, or a faulty connection, the code will return once the dryer attempts to run a cycle again. A reset alone is not a fix if a hardware problem is present.

It is not recommended to continue using the dryer while the F06 code is active. The error indicates that a temperature monitoring sensor is not functioning correctly, which means the dryer may not be able to accurately track heat levels during operation. Running the dryer without reliable temperature monitoring could pose a risk of overheating.
