Whirlpool Washer Error Code E:06

E:06 indicates that the NTC thermistor, the component that monitors water temperature, has been detected in a shorted condition. The control board reads an abnormal low-resistance signal from the NTC circuit and faults the machine to prevent improper operation. The cause is either a failed NTC sensor or a short in the wire harness connecting it to the control board.

It is not recommended to continue running the washer while E:06 is active. Because the temperature sensor is faulted, the control board cannot accurately regulate water temperature, which could result in overheating or improper wash cycles. The machine should be diagnosed and repaired before normal use resumes.

Repair costs vary depending on the failed component and labor rates in your area. Replacing an NTC thermistor is generally an affordable repair, with parts typically in the range of $10 to $40. If the wire harness requires replacement or repair, costs may be higher, and a control board replacement would represent the most expensive outcome. Total repair costs including labor generally range from $80 to $250.

Start by running test P:16 to isolate the NTC circuit. Then measure the resistance of the NTC sensor directly at its terminals and check the wire harness for continuity and shorts. If the sensor reads near-zero resistance, replace the NTC thermistor. If the sensor tests correctly, inspect the wiring harness for damage or corrosion and repair or replace as needed.

A power reset may temporarily clear the error code, but E:06 will return as soon as the control board re-evaluates the NTC circuit and detects the short again. The underlying fault in the sensor or wiring must be corrected for the error to clear permanently.
