Er:16 means the washer was unable to calibrate its analog pressure sensor during a self-diagnostic cycle. This code applies only to WFMC64 and WFXD84 models. The pressure sensor monitors the water level in the tub, and when it cannot be calibrated, the machine stops to prevent unsafe operation. The cause is typically a faulty sensor or a problem in the wire harness connecting it to the control board.

A reset may temporarily clear the code from the display, but Er:16 will return if the underlying problem with the pressure sensor or wire harness has not been resolved. The fault is tied to a failed calibration routine that runs during startup, so the same failure will be detected again the next time the machine attempts to calibrate. A lasting fix requires addressing the hardware fault.

If the issue is a loose connector or a damaged wire that can be repaired, the cost is minimal, mainly covering labor time. Replacing the analog pressure sensor typically costs in the range of $30 to $80 for the part, plus labor if a technician performs the work. If the control board is ultimately found to be at fault, replacement costs are considerably higher, generally ranging from $150 to $350 or more depending on parts availability.

Start by running diagnostic test P8, which evaluates the analog pressure sensor and its circuit. Inspect the wire harness for damaged wires, corroded terminals, or loose connectors and reseat any connections that are not fully engaged. Also check the pressure hose for kinks or blockages. If the harness and hose are in good condition but the fault persists, the pressure sensor itself will need to be replaced.

It is not recommended to continue using the washer while Er:16 is active. The pressure sensor is responsible for controlling water fill levels, and a faulty or uncalibrated sensor means the machine cannot accurately monitor how much water is in the tub. Running cycles in this condition risks overfilling, which can cause water damage or interfere with proper operation of other components.
