The nD code on a Whirlpool washer stands for a drain error. It means the washer attempted to drain water from the tub but could not complete the process within the expected time. Common causes include debris blocking the pump or hoses, a disconnected wiring harness, a terminal issue at the pump, or a frozen drain line in cold environments.

You should not continue running wash cycles while the nD code is active. If the washer cannot drain properly, water may remain in the tub and the machine will not advance through the cycle correctly. Repeated attempts to run a cycle with an active drain fault can also put added strain on the pump motor. Diagnose and resolve the underlying cause before resuming normal use.

If the issue is simply a debris blockage in the pump filter or hose, the repair can often be completed at no parts cost and just requires time to clean out the obstruction. A replacement drain pump, if needed, typically runs in the range of $35 to $100 for the part, with professional labor adding another $75 to $150 depending on the service provider and region.
