Whirlpool Washer Error Code nF1

The nF1 code means the hot and cold water supply hoses connected to the back of the washer are swapped. The washer detects that the water temperature arriving at each inlet does not match what is expected. Correcting the hose connections will resolve the error.

Running the washer with reversed hoses can result in incorrect wash temperatures, which may damage certain fabrics or reduce cleaning effectiveness. Hot water entering the cold port can also affect detergent dispensing if the machine times dispenser cycles based on water temperature. It is best to correct the hose connections before running a load.

In most cases there is no parts cost at all, since the fix simply involves reconnecting the existing hoses to the correct inlet ports. If the hoses are damaged, kinked, or have worn fittings and need replacement, new washing machine inlet hoses typically cost between $10 and $30 for a standard pair. If a plumber is needed to correct reversed supply valves at the wall, service call fees can range from $75 to $150 or more depending on your area.

Turn off both water supply valves behind the washer, then disconnect the two inlet hoses. Reconnect the hot water hose to the hot inlet port (usually marked H or with a red label) and the cold water hose to the cold inlet port (marked C or with a blue label). Turn the water back on, check for leaks, and run a cycle to confirm the error is gone.

A reset alone will not permanently clear the nF1 error because the underlying condition, reversed hoses, will still be present when the machine fills with water again. The error will return on the next fill cycle until the hot and cold hoses are physically swapped to their correct positions.
