The relay module is a dedicated board that houses multiple relays, each responsible for switching power to specific heating components such as the bake element, broil element, and convection components. When the broil relay shorts, it can cause the broil element to receive continuous power regardless of control commands, or it may prevent the element from operating safely in a controlled manner.

A shorted relay typically occurs due to one of several conditions: contact welding inside the relay from repeated high-current switching cycles, heat damage to the relay coil or contacts from prolonged use, or a voltage spike that permanently fuses the relay contacts in a closed position. Because the broil element draws significant amperage during operation, the relay contacts are under considerable stress over the appliance's service life. Physical inspection of the relay module may reveal burn marks, discoloration, or a detectable odor of burnt components near the affected relay.

The first diagnostic step is to inspect all wiring connections at the relay module for looseness, corrosion, or heat damage.
