E 04 indicates a data flash memory error on the Wolf range's control board. The controller has detected a problem reading or writing to its internal flash memory and enters a cyclic reset loop attempting to recover. Unlike most fault codes, this error is not persistently displayed on screen because the board keeps restarting itself. A power cycle is the first recommended step to attempt clearing the fault.

A Wolf range in a cyclic controller reset state should not be operated until the fault is resolved. Because the control board is restarting repeatedly, it cannot reliably manage burner ignition, gas valve control, or oven temperature regulation. Attempting to cook with a controller in this condition creates unpredictable appliance behavior and should be avoided until the error is cleared or the board is replaced.

If E 04 returns after performing a full power cycle, the control board's flash memory has a hardware failure that a reset cannot fix. The next step is to inspect all wiring harness connections at the control board for corrosion or looseness, as a poor power connection can mimic a board failure. If connections are secure and the error persists, the control board will need to be replaced by a qualified technician familiar with Wolf appliances.

A power cycle will clear E 04 if the root cause was a transient event such as a power surge or momentary voltage fluctuation. Turn off the circuit breaker supplying the range and leave it off for at least five minutes before restoring power to allow the controller to fully discharge and reinitialize. If the cyclic reset behavior returns after power is restored, the control board has a hardware failure and will need to be replaced.
